Join us on Saturday, June 12 at End O Line Railroad Park and Museum in Currie for our annual Open House day. The park will be open from 10am-5pm. The park’s historic buildings will be open for self-guided tours during this time. Normal park admission will be waived for the day in lieu of free-will donations. Proceeds help us preserve the park’s buildings and history. Free cookies and refreshments available all day. Take-home kid’s activities from 10am-2pm.
At 2pm, author Cindy Wilson of Elysian, MN will talk about her new book titled “The Beautiful Snow: The Ingalls Family, the Railroads, and the Hard Winter of 1880-81” in the Lake Shetek Church at End O Line Park. The book and presentation will focus on the railroad blockades, particularly near Walnut Grove and Tracy, that kept food and fuel from reaching communities in southwestern Minnesota and southeastern Dakota Territory during the “Hard Winter” of 1880-81 (“The Long Winter” of Laura Ingall’s Wilder’s Little House novel). The presentation is free and open to the public. Copies of the book are available in the End O Line Gift Shop and will also be on the day of the event.
